Frequently asked chiropractic questions

Chiro – By Hand. Practor – To Practice.

Chiropractic is a form of natural holistic healthcare which focuses on restoring and maintaining good health.

BJ Palmer: “Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live”

Chiropractic in the UK is a regulated profession and the title of chiropractor is legally a protected title.

A chiropractor will look at the effects your lifestyle has had on your body and nervous system. Firstly identifying the sources of symptoms and discovering the underlying reasons for them. We then prescribe a course of care and guidance to bring your body back into balance, facilitating your bodies ability to heal as well as improving your overall health and quality of life and minimising the likelihood of any issues reoccurring.

A chiropractor specialises in the spine because the nerves in the spinal cord control your whole body and health. Once the Chiropractor has located the area’s of dysfunction in the spine, they will make an adjustment to that area which is a quick gentle movement done by hand. The adjustment restores function to that area of the spine, and also has a neurological effect that improves the communication of the body and the brain.

Clicking is the formation of gas inside the joint capsule. The noise is a common effect of the adjustment but it is not the goal of the adjustment and some adjustment techniques  do not cause any noise at all.

Chiropractic adjustments are not painful, however, sometimes working through area’s that are already painful and inflamed may be needed. In these situations, we will adapt the adjustments to you to make them as comfortable as possible.

Patients report better sleep, better posture, less aches and pains, more energy, improved sports performance, better overall physical and mental wellbeing. That being said, everyones reactions to adjustments are different and until you experience it yourself, you will not know the full power and reaction your adjustments might have.

From brain scans we know that to have the correct neurological changes the adjustment needs to be quicker than 0.2 seconds. Which is why it takes a lifetime of training to become proficient in spinal adjustments.
We recommend to allow for 15 minutes to attend your adjustments.

Gym clothes are preferred but generally everyday clothes or clean work clothes are fine too. As long as you can move comfortably and the clothing isn’t too baggy that’s great.
