If you have sciatica in Plymouth, you can see a chiropractor directly, without a referral.
At Ocean City Chiropractic, in Plymouth city centre (Ground Floor, 3 The Crescent, Plymouth PL1 3AB), Dr Dane Jacks and Dr Freya Soper, Doctors of Chiropractic registered with the General Chiropractic Council, examine your back, pelvis and nerves to find what's irritating the sciatic nerve. Depending on what we find, care may include chiropractic adjustments, non-surgical spinal decompression and targeted exercises.
These are the patterns we hear most often from people with neck-related headaches.

Not really. Sciatica describes the pain travelling down the leg. The cause could be a disc, stiff joints, tight muscles or narrowing around the nerve. Finding which one it is matters, because each needs something different.
Most sciatica isn't dangerous, even when it's very painful. The warning signs that need urgent attention are listed on this page: numbness around the genitals or back passage, bladder or bowel changes, or weakness in both legs.
It's one of the options we use for longer-standing back pain and sciatica, but only after a full consultation and examination. If we don't think it's right for you, we'll tell you.
Keep moving little and often and avoid long spells sitting. Many people find lying on their back with their knees bent over a pillow eases the leg pain. Skip any stretch that makes the leg pain worse.
Usually not. In line with UK guidance and the Royal College of Chiropractors' quality standards, we don't send people for routine X-rays or scans. A thorough examination tells us most of what we need. If something in your history or examination means a scan would change what we do, we'll tell you and can arrange it.
All three are regulated professions you can see directly, and all can help with sciatica. What matters most is someone who examines you properly, explains what's going on and gives you a plan that includes what you can do yourself. At Ocean City Chiropractic you'll see a chiropractor, and our sports therapist too if that suits you better. There's more on this in our guide: chiropractor, physio or osteopath?
