At Ocean City Chiropractic, in Plymouth city centre (Ground Floor, 3 The Crescent, Plymouth PL1 3AB), we use digital posture analysis to measure how you stand, then help with the aches, stiffness and tension that often come with poor posture. Every initial consultation includes a posture analysis.

Does this sound like you?

These are the patterns we hear most often from people with neck-related headaches.

  • Rounded shoulders or a head that pokes forward
  • Aching neck and upper back after screen days
  • One shoulder or hip higher than the other
  • Stiff when you stand up after sitting
  • Feeling tense and finding it hard to relax
  • Photos where you don't like how you're standing

What causes postural issues?

Posture is mostly habit, plus how well your joints and muscles move. Common drivers:

  • Desks and phones. Your head weighs about 5kg. At 15° of forward tilt your neck carries roughly double that, and at 60° around five times
  • A stiff mid back that makes sitting tall hard work
  • Some muscles tight, others switched off, from doing the same things every day
  • Stress, which pulls the shoulders up and forwards

What the research says

Your head weighs about 5kg. Research modelling the neck found that at 15° of forward tilt it carries around 12kg, and at 60° around 27kg. That's why small daily habits add up.

Frequently asked questions

You can book directly with a chiropractor. At Ocean City Chiropractic, Ground Floor, 3 The Crescent, Plymouth PL1 3AB, we measure your posture with digital posture analysis and help with the aches and stiffness that come with it. It's part of every initial consultation, and we run free posture checks from time to time. Book online or call 01752 921 931.

We can help with the stiffness and aches, and give you the exercises and set-up changes that make good posture easier to hold. The daily habits are yours, and we'll re-check your posture so you can see your progress.

We take measured photos of you from the front and side. They show things like how far your head sits forward and whether your shoulders and hips are level. We re-take them later so you can see changes.

We run free posture checks from time to time, so see our free posture assessment page for the next one. A full digital posture analysis is also included in every initial consultation.

Raise your screen to eye level, hold your phone higher, get up every 30 minutes, and do a few shoulder rolls and chin tucks through the day.

All three are regulated professions you can see directly, and all can help with posture problems. What matters most is someone who examines you properly, explains what's going on and gives you a plan that includes what you can do yourself. At Ocean City Chiropractic you'll see a chiropractor, and our sports therapist too if that suits you better. There's more on this in our guide: chiropractor, physio or osteopath?

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, so you can book directly with us. Book online or call 01752 921 931.

Your initial consultation takes 45 minutes and costs £65. We take 50% of that when you book. Your second visit, where we go through what we found and your options, is free. If you go ahead with care, sessions are £45 each, or £39 each on a programme or monthly membership. See our pricing page for any current offers.
